Factor

You would need to ! to keep him alive

Seriously though Service crew is effectively another entry (a mere $50KUS) plus vehicle running costs etc so considering options there.....

Should be a good event PT is coming along so probably share the driving and navigating ............also good good to have mechanical expertise in the car

Thinking of teaming up with a couple of Bathurst teams and running a three car team , probably have a trial team run in this years outback safari albeit in different cars as on the Sydney to London they have to be pre 1975 No doubt theyt will be datsuns (plan is all the same so we can share spares as required) , I was planning on a 1600, pretty bulletproof and a reliable one with a bit of SWR and Bathurst / Canberra rally mafia magic should be able to be competitive.............

Interesting that someone seems to have found a pre 1976 Holden Commodore.
Must be a pretty rare beast
Same with a Porsche 928s - the factory has this funny impression they started producing these in 1978!
Anyone know what a "DeNoble 430 ST" is?

Me thinks a Denoble 430ST is a one off prototype that Laurence Noble built from something made pre Dec'75, like a '69 Buick Wildcat or '65 Lincoln Continental, with a dirty great big 7L 430 cubic inch V8 in it.
But probably not.

Perhaps just 4.3 litre - the Buick style V8 that found its way into the Range Rover/P76

Were Stanza's made before 1975? or turbo's fitted to Porche's?
But then who really cares?
Power to them!

Its charisma

Pure charisma.

And engineering excellence.

And headroom. Sufficient for a gentleman to wear a proper hat.

And a big parcel shelf under the rear window - space for a gentleman to keep a range of alternative hats.

And competition pedigree - A Volvo 142S came second in the 1969 East African Safari.

Of course, I choose to ignore the fearful impact that 142s have had on biodiversity. Doubtless you're familiar with the saying "If you give 10,000 Scandinavians 10,000 Volvos, ultimately there won't be a tree left standing in Finland."

You may laugh about the charisma (many do ) But I was followed home this afternoon by a young(ish) guy who is very keen to buy it from me. Even if it's ten years before I want to sell it.

I thought about referring him for counselling, but I don't want to dampen his enthusiasm. So nice to see in a young person.

Perhaps I should introduce him to Spac ................

The regs and entries are out. Go to:

Regs & Entries are go!

The event has also been brought forward:

"Dates: As you know the intended dates were 4th October-2nd November 2014. However, for some time there have been concerns about the weather on the European Leg of the Event at that time. Another concern, expressed by the organisers of the Silver Fern Rally in New Zealand, was regarding some of their regular entrants not being able to get their cars back to that side of the world in time for that event which takes place in November 2014. September/October was considered but these dates clashed with the other commitments of many of the organising team.

So we have decided to bring the date of our event forward to 12th April to 11th May 2014. You can see the updated Programme on our website at Home. "

The route has also been 'abridged':

"Route: Whilst 2014 may seem a long way in the future and the current Middle East problems may have been resolved by then, organisational requirements are such that we have to decide now on the countries the Event will visit. We also have to take into account the number of days a route will take to traverse. We have, therefore, reluctantly taken the decision to restrict the countries to Australia, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, France, England, and Wales."

Most importantly car eligibility has been extended from 1975 to 1981, opening up the event to many more vehicles.

Seriously thinking about raising the RX7 a bit, fitting body protection, swapping out the 13B for its old 12A and visiting London. Guess that would also mean missing Targa in 2014.

An RX7 isn't the perfect car for the event but running the one you have is a lot cheaper than building a new one and I am sure Jon Waterhouse can set us up in something to run the distance. After all it's only five Targa Tasmania's run end to end with a bit of gravel thrown in!!!
